If you follow these instructions, you should be able to play Petz 5
on your machine; it won't be the full enchilada but it will be better
than trying to get those online player-petz working with the buggy
online player, and you do get to do much more with your petz :-)

Download the "Nursery-freedom Petz 5 exe file" from the Mad Scientist's
page, and unzip it into a directory of your choice. I will assume
that you have chosen to put it on Drive D in a directory called Petz5.

Unpack the p5foolerstuff, included in this zipfile, into that directory
D:\Petz5
You should then see two .txt files and a .dll file in there, and a
new directory called Clothes off it in which are a bunch of clothes.
The clothes are needed for some breedfiles.

Download and install the "Scientist's Petz 5 Easy-edit mice kit"
from the link on the Mad Scientist's page. Follow the included
instructions carefully to install.

Now download and install the files from the two pages Catz in dogz 5
and Dogz in catz 5. You need:
Basic Cat behaviours for Petz 4 and Petz 5 (4.8 megabytes)
Small cut-down Catz Rez file for Petz 5
Original Bunny for Petz 5
Basic Dog behaviours for Petz 4 and Petz 5 (4.3 megabytes)
Small cut-down Dogz Rez file for Petz 5
Follow the included instructions carefully to install.

Now you need three particular playscenes. Grab the Adoption Centre,
Family Room and Editor easy-edit kits from my Tutorials, Petz page.
These three are essentials. Install them as per the instructions.

Other scenes are available at various sites, most of them being "Editor"
made playscenes. You don't need any of them but it's nice to have them,
isn't it. By the way, you can find a kitchen -- which is a hexed original
and not an Editor-made one -- at my site.

Toyz are not needed for the game to run, but they are fun of course :-)
Make a Toyz directory off your game's Resource directory, and download
toyz from the few sites that have 'em, including mine.

Clothes also in general are not needed for the game to run, but some
breedz require items of clothing to be in place or they will crash the game
when some variations come out of the Adoption Centre. Seems daft, but it's so.
The chihuahua and Poodle need the pink sweater, the Chinchilla persian requires
the pink bow, and the Scottie requires the Plaid Sweater. The Bulldog needs
a bunch of sweaters. You will find all those in my "fooler". If you want other
clothes, there are plenty available for download, I'm sure.

And finally, breedz. You can't adopt a pet without a breed, but there
are plenty online to choose from. And if you want a set of the original
breeds, well hey, various sites have backups of original breedfiles
for the convenience of hexers. If you prefer my style, I have all of
them as external-sound, external-lnz files on the Orig C5 Breedz and
Orig D5 Breedz pages. If you don't want to download all the breedz,
you don't have to of course, but be aware that some playscenes have
"host" pets which will crash the game if they try to come out without
their breedfiles in place. So if you don't want the breedz go to
the Options, General Options, menu item in the game, and tick
"no host characters in scene"

There you are then; a strangely cobbled-together version of the Petz 5
game, playable without the problems that many people have with the online player
petz these days.

Enjoy!
