Aaaargh... Please, people, stop this obsession with ears! Do, please, try
reading all the various "howto"s that I've done and then figure out for
yourself which of the information under [Move], [Project Ball], [Omissions],
[Add Ball], [Linez], and [Ballz Info] needs changing. Remember that if you
change the order of things in [Add Ball], then [Linez] will need to be
significantly altered also, plus keep an eye on any Add Ball numbers that
may be in [Project Ball] and [Move].

So here is, I hope, the last ear-changing "howto", this time for putting
chihuahua ears on a Dane. Please don't ask me how to do any more ears,
or I'll start climbing the walls and gibbering at you.

Once again, Just to make it a little different for myself and for people who are
getting tired of ear "howto"s, I also include how to put whiskers on your dogz.

Included in this zipfile is a test Dogz 4 breedfile which is a Dane with chi
ears and whiskers and a load of fancy spots for the spot-fanatics which also
seem to swarm in the Petz Community. This breedfile has been stripped of
its sounds so as to decrease its size for downloading, and it _WILL_ overwrite
your Dane breed, so remember to keep a backup of your original if you use this.
If you have a different version of the game and you want to see the dog, then just
copy the .lnz section of this file into a copy of your game's Dane.dog file.
After all, you are a hexer, aren't you :-)

Just a note as to my editing methods so that with any luck all that I go on about in
most of my tutorials or "howto"s will make sense.
This is my method: open the breedfile into Hex Workshop (or some other true hex
editor -- not VIM, and _definitely_ _not_ Wordpad). Search for the text string
[Little one] and place your cursor in front of it. Scroll down and select from
there to the end of the .lnz section, which finishes with PFM_[V2.001] (c) 1997 PF.
Magic, Inc. Choose "copy" from the drop-down edit menu. Now open a new, empty file
from the drop-down file menu in the hex editor. Place the cursor in it and choose
Paste from the edit menu. Save it as breed.txt. Now open breed.txt in Notepad.
This is the .lnz section of the breedfile (or .clz section of a clothes file),
which _is_ actually itself a small text file.
And for people who wonder what to do with it when you've finished editing it; well,
you open it in the hex editor again, check that it's the same size as it was before,
and then copy/paste it over the same place whence it came!

Now, on to putting chi ears on your Dane:

In [Move] replace this:

;4,	0,	-20,	10,	52	; omitted
;5,	0,	-20,	10,	52	; omitted
6,	0,	-20,	10,	52
;28,0,	-20,	10,	52	; omitted
;29,0,	-20,	10,	52	; omitted
30,	0,	-20,	10,	52

with this:

6,	18,	-35,	5,	52
30,	-18,	-35,	5,	52

In [Project Ball] remove this:

;EARS
52, 6, 79
52, 30, 79
38, 6, 120
14, 30, 120

Since we are about to alter things in [Add Ball], you will also need to deal with the tail ballz:

;TAIL
57, 58, 130
58, 59, 130
59, 60, 130
60, 61, 130
61, 62, 130
58, 83, 50
59, 84, 50
60, 85, 50
61, 86, 50
62, 87, 50

and the tongue ball:

64, 88, 50

and the

;mouth corners
15, 89, 86
39, 90, 86

by replacing the tail add ball numbers 83-87 with the new 103-107, the tongue 88 with 79,
and the mouth corners 89 and 90 with the new 80 and 81.

You don't need to add any earball numbers under [Omissions], as the necessary ballz are
already listed there.

In add ball replace all the stuff from 77 upwards with the chi stuff, altering the colours
to suit your breed of course:

;upper ears 77
6,	18,	-20,	-15, 49,	0,	0,	-1,	0,	-1,	15,	0,	0,	1

52,	30,	-35,	0, 41,	0,	0,	0,	0,	-1,	16,	0,	0,	1
52,	43,	-18,	0, 41,	0,	0,	0,	0,	-1,	16,	0,	0,	1

52,	-30,	-35,	0, 41,	0,	0,	0,	0,	-1,	16,	0,	0,	1
52,	-43,	-18,	0, 41,	0,	0,	0,	0,	-1,	16,	0,	0,	1

Note: you'll want to tweak the x,y,z co-ordinates of the "base ears" Add Ballz 93 and 96,
as the head ball on a Dane is different from that on a Chihuahua and the ears will seem
unconnected from the head unless you do alter those co-ordinates.

Now replace the new Chi cheeks:

;cheeks 80
56,	15,	5,	20,	105,	0,	0,	-1,	0,	-1,	40,	0,	0,	1
56,	-15,	5,	20,	105,	0,	0,	-1,	0,	-1,	40,	0,	0,	1

with the old dane jowls:

;jowls (was 89 is now 80)
56, 17, 25, 6, 95, 0, 0, 0, 3, -1, 30, 0, 0, 0
56, -17, 25, 6, 95, 0, 0, 0, 3, -1, 30, 0, 0, 0

then add on the end the mouth corners and jowlz of the dane

;cheeks (was 91 is now 99-100)
51, 20, -25, 23, 55, 0, 0, -1, 0, -1, 30, 0, 0, 1
51, -20, -25, 23, 55, 0, 0, -1, 0, -1, 30, 0, 0, 1

;mouth corners (was 93 is now 101-102)
51, 8, -3, 5, 95, 0, 0, 0, 3, -1, 22, 0, 0, 0
51, -8, -3, 5, 95, 0, 0, 0, 3, -1, 22, 0, 0, 0

and the extra tail ballz of the dane:

;tail (was 83 is now 103-107)
57, 0, 0,	0, 55, 0, 0, 1, 6, -1, 22, 0, 0, 1
58, 0, 0,	0, 55, 0, 0, 1, 2, -1, 18, 0, 0, 1
59, 0, 0,	0, 55, 0, 0, 1, 2, -1, 16, 0, 0, 1
60, 0, 0,	0, 55, 0, 0, 1, 2, -1, 14, 0, 0, 1
61, 0, 0,	0, 55, 0, 0, 2, 2, -1, 14, 0, 0, 1

Now, the ball numbers for the cheeks, jowls and mouth corners are no longer 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94.
They are now 80, 81, 99, 100, 101, 102.
Also the tongue addball is now 79.
And the tail ballz are 103-107.
You need to remember (or make a note of) all this for the Linez.

If you _don't_ want the Whiskas in this breed, just list those
balls and the upperlip one under [Omissions]:

82
89
90
91
92

in [Linez] change 88 to 79 so that the tongue ballz all join up correctly
63, 79, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	100,	100 ;tongue
79, 64, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	100,	100 ;tongue

Replace the ear linez info with this

6,	83,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
84,	6,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
6,	85,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
83,	77,	0,	-1,	244,	25,	100,	100
84,	77,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
93,	85,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
85,	77,	0,	-1,	25,	244,	100,	100
93,	83,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100

86,	78,	0,	-1,	25,	244,	100,	100
87,	78,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
96,	88,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
88,	78,	0,	-1,	244,	25,	100,	100
96,	86,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
93,	6,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
83,	94,	0,	-1,	244,	25,	100,	100
85,	95,	0,	-1,	25,	244,	100,	100
93,	94,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
93,	95,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
96,	30,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
86,	97,	0,	-1,	25,	244,	100,	100
88,	98,	0,	-1,	244,	25,	100,	100
96,	97,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100
96,	98,	0,	-1,	-1,	-1,	100,	100

Change the tail ball info so that the ballz join up correctly

62, 107, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
107, 61, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
61, 106, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
106, 60, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
60, 105, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
105, 59, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
59, 104, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
104, 58, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
58, 103, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
103, 57, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95 ;tail
57, 49, 1,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	40 ;tail/butt

Now, you have to re-connect the cheek and mouth-corner ballz properly since you
moved them from 89 etc to 80 etc. So instead of this:

;face
;52, 89, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95
;52, 90, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95
91, 89, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	45
92, 90, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	45
53, 93, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
53, 94, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
93, 51, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
94, 51, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
51, 56, 0,	244,	244, 244,	0,	100
91, 15, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	70
92,	39, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	70
;91, 56, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
;92, 56, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
91, 93, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	95
92, 94, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	95
89, 15, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95
90, 39, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95
;89, 51, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	90,	90
;90, 51, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	90,	90

you want this

;face
99, 80, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	45
100, 81, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	45
53, 101, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
53, 102, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
101, 51, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
102, 51, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	100
51, 56, 0,	244,	244, 244,	0,	100
99, 15, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	70
100,	39, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	100,	70
99, 101, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	95
100, 102, 0,	-1,	-1, -1,	95,	95
80, 15, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95
81, 39, 0,	-1,	244, 244,	95,	95

If you want your breed to have whiskers, add this to the .lnz file somewhere:

[Whiskers]
;start, end, color
15, 89, 45
15, 90, 45
39, 91, 45
39, 92, 45

And finally, in [Ballz Info] you'll want to change the size of ballz 6 and 30 each to -4.

You can of course tweak the various ballz and linez to suit yourself, but that's the basics
of how to do it.

Enjoy!
